Marlink Simplifies Operations and Expands Network Flexibility with Upgrade to ST Engineering iDirect Dialog 2.5.1

PR Newswire

Latest release creates a single return technology for all Marlink use cases

HERNDON, Va., June 8, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ST Engineering iDirect, a global leader in satellite communications, today announced that service provider Marlink has upgraded to the latest Dialog® 2.5.1 release to take full advantage of its global network, increasing performance and simplifying the operations of customers across several markets. The latest release effectively combines the extra-high throughput from high resolution coding (HRC) and scaling from MRC, two former versions of Dialog's award-winning waveform Mx-DMA®, into a single return technology.

The newly heightened performance of Mx-DMA MRC, combined with the scalability and efficiency for which Mx-DMA is known, creates a new level of service agility that is central to the business of service providers that support many markets, sectors and applications. The introduction of one operating system that serves the wide range of requirements across Marlink's maritime, enterprise and energy customers, means a single approach for link budgeting, frequency plans and configuration, plus a single hub device, that together enable truly simplified operations.

The performance gains with Marlink's upgrade to Dialog 2.5.1 are significant. For the highest data requirements, Mx-DMA MRC can achieve a new maximum symbol rate of 100 Msps on the MDM5010 modem, resulting in up to 300 Mbps of throughput on the return link alone. With a DVB-S2X forward, these users can anticipate more than 1 Gbps aggregated throughput. MDM3315 users with mid-range data requirements will benefit from a new maximum symbol rate increase to 40 Msps. This helps to increase availability as the modem can do lower modcods with a higher symbol rate to achieve the committed information rate (CIR), especially when CIR values are high in terms of Mbps.

Marlink also gains from the flexibility of access to free-running BUC support which enables the use of unslaved BUCs with MRC by introducing individual frequency trackers for every terminal. Additional features of R2.5.1 include enhanced monitoring and security, another key priority for Marlink. This is addressed through HTTPS support on the Network Management System (NMS) which secures the communication streams on the management network and a configurable modem password which allows customers to set or change the expert user password, and define granular access policies for the normal users.

"The complexity of the demands made by our maritime, energy and enterprise customers mean that Marlink is constantly looking for ways to simplify service deployments while gaining maximum performance and flexibility," said Tore Morten Olsen, President, Maritime at Marlink. "In addition, growing threats to remote assets mean that improvements to network monitoring and security are an important enhancement to the digital solutions we deploy."

"We are delighted to be able to deliver these improvements to our valued partner, Marlink, when reliable, high-performance connectivity is more in demand than ever, across every industry," said Steve Tunnicliffe, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at ST Engineering iDirect. "Built on solid technology innovation, this single platform offers the highest level of performance and convenience and meets every possible use case as well as monitoring, security and excellent support. We have already seen the difference that the upgrade has made to Marlink's enterprise business, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact on its maritime services."
